1998 - Gypsy Princess - Show Synopsis

ACT ONE
Prince Peter von Leydersheim is in love with the gipsy cabaret artiste, Sylva Varescu, but his family disapproves. They send the unsympathetic Captain von Rohnsdorff to bring Peter back to Vienna. Peter has been idling his time in the provincial town of Konigradz where Sylva performs in a local nightclub. She has realised that she will never be allowed to marry the Prince and has arranged to go on a tour of America accompanied by her funning friend Boni. In a desperate attempt to force her to stay, Peter, aided by the charming Feri, signs a marriage contract which he will honour within three months. Unfortunately Rohnsdorff has shown Boni an invitation to a betrothal party arranged by Peter's parents. They intend to marry the Prince to his cousin, the Countess Stasi. When Boni shows the invitation to Feri, Sylva determines to set off for America with no intention to return.

ACT TWO
It is three months later. At a ball given by Leo and Karen von Leydersheim, Sylva makes her return, pretending to have married Boni. For Boni this proves disastrous as he falls in love at first glance with the captivating Stasi. She is aware of Peter's love for Sylva and would return Boni's love if it were not for his wife. Peter's parents are the model of social correctness and agree that it would be "better dead than ill-bred". Leo proposes to announce the betrothal but Peter declares his love for the "Countess Bonifaska". Sylva, hurt by Peter's comments about her class, reveals she is not really married to Boni but to the Prince. Tearing up the marriage contract she hurries away.

ACT THREE
Everyone, in their turn, hurries after Sylva to the Hotel Holzberg. By lucky chance Feri is staying at the hotel as chaperone to the girls from Konigradz who are to appear at the Komedy. Feri instantly recognises Karen as his long lost love from their youth at the Palladium in Miskoloz. Leo discovers he is married to a singer and in a flurry of activity everything is satisfactorily concluded.
